The Members Of The Governing Body
September 2016
Mr Horace Boswell, Chair of Governors
I was born and grew up in Nottingham and was educated at The Becket Grammar School in West Bridgford. On leaving school I worked in an office before starting a career in Financial Services. I worked for the Prudential Assurance Company for 22 years in Nottingham and Sheffield before moving to Grantham in 1987. Upon leaving Prudential I joined HSBC Bank working for them for 10 years before taking early retirement in 2005. This year I will have been married for 40 years and have 2 sons, who are both married. I also have 2 grandchildren. My hobbies are less energetic nowadays, like playing snooker and reading but in the past I enjoyed fencing and regularly represented Nottinghamshire County in competitions in all parts of the country. I also passed my exams to gain my coaching qualification. For two afternoons each week I come into school and help some of the children improve their reading skills.

Miss Rebecca Genelli - Vice Chair
I have been a Governor at Belmont Community Primary School for three years, but have a long history with the school.
I grew up in Grantham, and after gaining my degree, I returned to Lincolnshire to train to be a primary school teacher. I was offered my first teaching post at Belmont in 1999. I taught here, mainly in KS2, for 5 years, before moving to another local school to become an Advanced Skills Teacher. Following the birth of my two children, I decided to work part time for a while and was lucky enough to be asked to teach here at Belmont again. When my children were a little older, I joined Bishop Grosseteste University as a full time senior lecturer. I have recently completed my Master’s degree in primary education, and the part of my job that I enjoy most is visiting primary schools all around the area to work with trainee teachers – sometimes even at Belmont!

Mr Peter Rawson
I have been involved with Belmont School since 1978 when my eldest daughter started her school life here. I was on the PTA for many years before becoming a Governor in 1989. I was Chair of the Governors from 1991 until 2009 and again for one year in 2010. I have therefore worked with all the Head Teachers that the school has had since the school has opened.
My main interest on the curriculum is numeracy but I am also the Health and Safety Governor.

Mr Geoff Perkins
I am Grantham born and bred and have always lived and worked in the local area, having been a Civil Servant for 37 years.
My interests include genealogical research, studying English Law (I am a Graduate of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives), reading everything I can find on British and local history and enjoying spending time with my two Grandchildren.
I first became associated with Belmont in 1987 when my eldest daughter started school here. My other daughter started at Belmont in 1995 and I then became a Parent Governor in 1996 after being successfully elected by the parents.
I have worked with every Head Teacher at Belmont and been a member of the interview panel for three of them. I have served on all the various committees at some point and have in the past been Vice Chair of the Governors as well as Chair of the Curriculum Committee.
I am currently serving as a Co-opted Governor and continue to find the experience interesting and rewarding.

Miss Emily Crow
I was brought up in the Peak District, but left there at 18 to complete a teacher training degree. I still however enjoy going back there to see family and friends, and I also realise how lucky I was to live in such a beautiful area.
I started my career in Wiltshire and I now have had over 20 years’ experience of teaching, mainly physical education and maths, in several secondary schools. The most recent of which was in Lincolnshire. I gave up a permanent role in December 2012 and now work through a teaching agency taking on different tuition or invigilation roles.
I was appointed as a Parent Governor in November 2013. Presently my youngest daughter attends Belmont and she thoroughly enjoys it.

Mr Richard Wood
I work at Grantham College as a Learning Support assistant, IT Lecturer and also as an Accommodation Officer. I have also been a student at the College since 2012 and am currently working towards my teaching qualification with Bedford University.
I volunteered as a Teaching Assistant in a Grantham primary school to gain my TA qualification; have a step-son in secondary education; a son attending Belmont School, (currently in the Reception Class), and also a young girl in nursery. I feel this gives me some experience throughout most levels of education. As I hope my daughter goes on to attend Belmont, I will have a long association with our school.
My hope would be that I can bring my experience to Belmont to benefit everyone. I am keen to bring a parent's insight into the Governing Body and to help to continuously improve the school for our children.

Miss Claire Smith
I am an Employment Lawyer and currently hold the position of Director of Law in my own Company. I have been advising companies, charities and schools in relation to Human Resources and Employment Law for the last 13 years and feel that this will be a useful skill to bring to the Governing Body.
I wanted to be a Governor as my daughter is due to join Belmont as a pupil and I feel that I have valuable skills that I can bring to the school and its governance. I have a vested interest in how the school is run and in it continuing to be a successfully run school with an excellent reputation.
